CpuBlade

CpuBlade

The CpuBlade is the first member in my family of tiny 1″ Square (25mm square) Propeller Based Microprocessor boards.

Features:

  • PCB 1.0″x1.0″ (25.4x254mm) 1.6mm thick Purple ENIG (gold finish)
  • P8X32A Parallax Propeller Microprocessor
  • 5.0/6.0/6.5MHz socketed crystal (80/96/104MHz clock frequency) – request option when ordering
  • EEPROM 64KB (preprogrammed) with WE link
  • All 32 I/O pins, Reset, 5Vin and Gnd brought out to 0.1″ pitch pads
  • Onboard 3V3 voltage regulator
  • Onboard (linkable) transistor reset circuit
  • Requires 5VDC Regulated power
  • Able to use (optional) cheap USB-Serial CP2102 6-pin (~US$1.25) connection to PC (does not require PropPlug)

The CpuBlade can be used as the basis of any Propeller Development System.

You can use a USB-Serial converter or PropPlug to download your program directly to the Propeller or EEPROM (requires WE link enabled). Not supplied.

The USB-Serial CP2102 6pin converter (~$1.25) works because the required transistor reset circuit is built on the P8XBlade2.

MemBlade (RamBlade3)

The MemBlade is the second member in my family of tiny 1″ Square (25mm square) Propeller Based Microprocessor boards.

Features:

  • PCB 1.0″x1.0″ (25.4x254mm) 1.6mm thick Purple ENIG (gold finish)
  • Plugs into CpuBlade, using P0..P29 (i.e. P30-31 are only free pins)
  • SRAM 512KB 55ns
  • MicroSD socket
  • Onboard 3V3 voltage regulator
  • Requires 5VDC Regulated power (from CpuBlade board)

When plugged in to/with CpuBlade forms a “RamBlade3” which can run my Prop OS and also CPM2.2 using the ZiCog Z80 emulation program. Prop OS and ZiCog are free programs which can be downloaded from the Parallax Propeller Forum or I can supply it on a formatted Micro SD Card.

Catalina C programs can also be run on this “RamBlade3”.

P30-31 can be used as a serial connection to a terminal or PC via USB-Serial converter such as a PropPlug or equivalent.

Alternatively, a PS2 Keyboard (using 1-pin) and a monochrome composite video (using 1-pin) can be connected. Free drivers are available, and only a few resistors are required which can be built into the cables.
